Behind the stories
Lewis Archer writes across fantasy and urban fantasy, with a particular interest in character, atmosphere, revision and the details that turn a manuscript into a finished book.
Writing gets interesting when the obvious choice stops working.

First draft
When the old tide-lanterns along Liverpool’s waterfront begin burning with a light that does not belong to any fuel or flame, archivist Mara Vale discovers the city’s forgotten wards are failing in places no one else notices. She is pulled into a quiet war between the people who keep the hidden city intact and the things that have been waiting under it for years. The work is less about saving the world than deciding which parts of it are allowed to remain unseen.
