When a Portsmouth branch library starts receiving books that should not exist, the night staff member who notices them begins tracing the missing catalogue records back to a sealed room beneath the building. The deeper she goes, the more the library seems to remember its own dead, and it wants them kept where they are. What starts as a bookkeeping problem turns into a fight over who gets to stay buried.
