The Salt Road Ledger
Set in late nineteenth-century Glasgow and the salt works of the west coast, this novel follows a clerk who discovers that a shipping ledger has been altered to hide the disappearance of several workers' wages. As she traces the numbers back through warehouses, counting rooms and family kitchens, she finds that the fraud reaches further than theft. The book is as much about who gets believed as it is about what was taken.
