Behind the stories
Joseph West writes mainly in adventure and enjoys discussing both the creative and practical sides of making books, from early drafts to finished editions.
Writing gets interesting when the obvious choice stops working.

Early draft
In 1812, a disgraced coastal pilot is forced to guide a secret cargo across the marsh roads of Kent before French agents, smugglers, and the winter tide can catch him. What begins as a practical run for money turns into a race to protect a woman carrying evidence that could ruin men far above his station. The book leans on hard choices, muddy geography, and the sort of loyalty that only shows up when it is inconvenient.
