In a future where public libraries have been turned into data vaults and physical books are rationed as archival objects, a cataloguer named Mara Venn discovers that whole sections of history have been quietly removed from the record. As she follows the gaps, she finds a system designed not just to censor information, but to edit what people are able to remember and imagine. The deeper she goes, the more she has to decide whether preserving truth is worth making herself legible to the machine that controls it.
