First draft
In a coastal city where memories can be stored in salt and traded like contraband, seventeen-year-old Mara Venn works in her uncle’s archive cleaning other people’s grief out of broken vials. When she finds a memory that proves her missing brother was taken by the city’s ruling guild, she has to decide whether to keep surviving quietly or break open the system that keeps everyone obedient. The closer she gets to the truth, the more she learns the archive was built on lies that still control the living.
