The Last Shelf at Millgate
Sixteen-year-old Rowan Vale spends most of their time in Millgate Library, where the staff are fighting to keep the building open and the town is deciding it would rather have a coffee chain than a reading room. When Rowan starts recording the library’s final months for an audiobook project, they uncover a quiet mess of family history, local politics and the small lies adults tell when they think young people are not listening. What begins as a practical attempt to save a place turns into a choice about what should be preserved, and who gets to decide.
