Behind the stories
Jessica Mason writes across literary fiction and historical fiction, with a particular interest in character, atmosphere, revision and the details that turn a manuscript into a finished book.
A story does not need to explain everything to know what it means.

In post-war Coventry, a junior librarian discovers a set of misfiled wartime letters hidden inside a donated atlas, each one pointing to a different person’s version of the city’s destruction and recovery. As she tries to return the letters to the lives they belong to, she is drawn into questions about memory, class, and who gets to decide what counts as the truth of a place.
