First draft
In the late eighteenth century, a disgraced surveyor is drawn into a private expedition to map a stretch of the Welsh coast where ships keep vanishing. What begins as a practical commission becomes a dangerous reckoning with old loyalties, false charts and the cost of being useful to the wrong people. The book moves between sea lanes, cliff paths and archive rooms, with the sort of weather that makes everyone behave badly.
