The Harbour at Low Water

Set in Aberdeen in the winter of 1892, the novel follows a proofreader at a small printing house who begins to suspect that a dead bookseller’s final annotations in the margins of a devotional pamphlet are pointing to a concealed family history. As she traces the marks through docks, tenements and back rooms full of damp paper, the search becomes less about solving a mystery than deciding which truths are worth keeping. The city itself, with its salt air and stubborn stone, is very much in on the arrangement.
