On the writing desk
First draft
When a late-night train from Leeds is found with one passenger missing and another dead in a locked carriage toilet, freelance copy editor Mara Venn starts noticing the same clipped phrases appearing in drafts she is working on. What looks like a local crime becomes stranger as she realises someone is using manuscript changes, audiobook scripts and train timetables to hide a pattern of meetings across the city. The closer she gets, the more it seems the killer understands how stories are built.
