Early draft
In 1191, a Portsmouth shipwright’s son is dragged into the Third Crusade after a damaged charter map points toward a missing convoy and a cargo of salt, timber and sealed letters that everyone wants kept buried. He follows the trail from the Channel ports to the siege lines outside Acre, where old loyalties, bad weather and worse decisions make survival feel like a matter of paperwork and luck.
