The Library of Broken Vows
In a city where old promises are stored as living texts, Mara Elling is hired to repair a sealed library whose books rewrite the lives of anyone who reads them. When she discovers the archive is failing and its warder is bound to the same magic that ruined her family, she has to decide whether some vows deserve to be broken. The work is supposed to be careful, quiet, and temporary. It never is.
