The House of Quiet Hours
After her estranged aunt dies, a freelance editor returns to a decaying terrace in Liverpool that was once used to house women employed copying and correcting private documents by hand. She finds the building still full of marked-up paper, half-finished revisions and a strange insistence that some mistakes must never be fixed. As the house closes in, she begins to suspect the old workroom was not just a place of labour but a mechanism for keeping something contained. The more she edits the past, the more the past starts editing her.
