Mara Bell, a London freelance copyeditor, is hired to help rescue a struggling independent paperback press just as its founder decides to close the business. When she is paired with the press's blunt, design-obsessed production manager, their arguments over pages, covers and final cuts start to look uncomfortably like chemistry. As the press fights for one last book, Mara has to decide whether she is editing her own life too carefully to let anything real stay on the page.
