First draft
When a Belfast branch library is due to close, its long-serving night porter starts quietly returning books that were never properly logged, hoping to keep the place open long enough to fix one mistake from his past. The borrowed books begin to connect him to other people in the city who have been carrying their own private losses, and the small act of putting things back in order turns out to be harder than the closure itself. It is a novel about memory, debt, and the awkward business of trying to do the right thing too late.
