In 1878, a Welsh mapmaker sent east to update a trade route atlas finds himself stranded in the Caucasus after a border war redraws the ground beneath his feet. To get home, he has to travel with a caravan carrying salt, papers and one badly kept secret through mountain passes full of soldiers, smugglers and people who all want the map to say something different.
