In 1890s Anatolia, a mapmaker's daughter inherits a packet of half-burned route notes that point toward a lost caravan road and the man who disappeared on it. When a local Ottoman survey team, a band of smugglers, and a determined widow all want the same trail, she has to decide whether the road is a rescue, a fraud, or a trap. The journey turns into a race across dry passes, ruined waystations, and places where old borders still matter more than new ones.
