When a Swansea library starts returning books that have never been checked out, Mara Vale discovers the shelves are quietly trading in lost time as well as stories. To stop the library from being emptied by something older than the building, she has to work with a tired evening librarian, a very practical ghost, and a set of rules nobody wrote down properly. The closer she gets to the truth, the more she has to decide what part of her own life she is willing to lend away.
