Early draft
After a small riverside town is cut off by a winter closure of its only bridge, a proofreader named Iris Vale begins to notice inconsistencies in the lives of the people around her, as if everyone has agreed to keep one version of events out of sight. When her estranged brother returns with a box of old paperbacks and a story that does not quite hold together, Iris is drawn into the private histories the town has half-buried. The novel follows what happens when memory, design, and omission start to look uncomfortably similar.
