First draft
After a council library in Sheffield begins clearing old storage rooms, a cataloguer discovers a box of letters, loan slips and half-finished notes that seem to map the private failures of several local families. As she tries to trace where the box came from, her own careful life starts to loosen around the edges, and the library becomes less a refuge than a place where buried stories insist on being read.
