The Last Ledger
Set in Durham in the winter of 1846, the novel follows a clerk in a cathedral archive who finds a missing account book tied to a dead solicitor and a disputed inheritance. As he traces the figures in the ledger, he is pulled into a quiet conspiracy of debts, old loyalties and carefully kept lies. The city’s respectable surface proves less stable than anyone likes to admit.
