Behind the stories
Harry Hudson writes across romance and historical romance, with a particular interest in character, atmosphere, revision and the details that turn a manuscript into a finished book.
A story does not need to explain everything to know what it means.

In 1890s Galway, a widowed dressmaker takes in a disgraced mapmaker who has returned to the city to finish a coastal survey that could clear his name. Their uneasy arrangement turns into something riskier as old loyalties, family debts and the practical business of staying fed keep getting in the way of any sensible plan. The book leans on small domestic details, civic change and the uncomfortable fact that affection is rarely tidy when people have already been hurt.
