In post-war Durham, a junior compositor at a small printing house discovers that a missing proof sheet may be tied to a death ruled accidental during the blackout years. As she follows the trail through paper stocks, altered type, and old wartime favours, she realises the truth has been hidden in plain sight for years. The deeper she gets, the more the city’s respectable surfaces begin to look like careful revisions.
