First draft
In 1913, a widowed schoolmistress in Kingstown takes a temporary post cataloguing the private papers of a declining merchant family while the harbour town waits for labour unrest to break into open conflict. What begins as orderly work becomes a quiet battle over memory, loyalty and the stories people keep from one another. The winter closes in, and so does the question of who gets to decide what is preserved and what is lost.
