First draft
When a freelance editor in Canterbury is asked to assess the final manuscript of a vanished local novelist, she finds that the book contains details that should not exist: private conversations, a hidden room, and a death everyone has agreed to forget. As she checks the pages against the real world, the story starts to look less like fiction and more like a warning. The closer she gets to the truth, the more she has to ask who is shaping whom, the writer or the text.
