When a London borough library announces a closure review, archivist Mara Ellison is forced to work with the infuriating consultant hired to assess it. He is efficient, sceptical, and far too good at seeing the weak points in her plans, which is irritating because he is usually right. As the library becomes the centre of a local campaign, Mara has to decide whether she is trying to save a building, a community, or the man helping her do it.
