The Salt Ledger
In a city built on black salt and old bargains, a clerk who records the debts of the dead discovers that the ledgers are not keeping the dead quiet. When the city’s buried saints begin collecting payment, she is forced to trace the fine print of a pact everyone else has chosen to forget. The deeper she goes, the clearer it becomes that the city’s order was never civilised, only expensive.
