First draft
In a small coastal town in County Cork during the winter of 1921, a widowed schoolteacher is asked to hide a ledger that could expose both local betrayal and the quiet bargains people have made to survive. As the town edges toward a new political order, she is forced to decide whether loyalty means silence, or the courage to let the truth unsettle everything. The story follows the private costs of public change, with attention to the ordinary details of work, grief, and fear.
