In 1916 Sheffield, a widowed clockmaker takes over the care of a small church bell foundry after a wartime accident leaves the business short of hands and patience. When a government contract threatens to turn the foundry into something colder and more profitable, he has to decide what can be preserved and what must be changed before the old neighbourhood is reshaped around him.
