First draft
When a rare paperback turns up in a Lancaster charity shop with a dead man's annotations in the margins, bookshop clerk Mara Ellison starts tracing where it came from and why someone wanted it hidden. The trail leads into private collections, local dealers and a very tidy-looking circle of people who all seem to be lying about the same missing evening. It is a crime novel with a bibliophile's obsession for editions, provenance and the odd ways people use books to keep secrets.
