In post-war Edinburgh, a junior cataloguer at a private library discovers that several books listed in the collection never existed, while others seem to have been quietly removed from the shelves. As she follows the paper trail, she uncovers a concealed chain of ownership tied to a dead antiquarian, a missing ledger and a family willing to preserve its lies. The deeper she goes, the more the library itself begins to look like the crime scene.
