In post-war Dundee, a widowed map librarian takes a temporary job sorting the papers of a vanished shipping family and finds that the missing records point to a long-buried dispute over a house, a cargo, and a child no one seems willing to name. As the city rebuilds around her, she has to decide how much truth is worth keeping when everyone else prefers a tidy version of the past.
