When a small Newcastle bookshop owner starts receiving pages from a rare local crime novel that was supposed to be out of print, she assumes it's a prank. Then the annotations in the margins begin predicting private conversations, and a missing customer is linked to the book's vanished author. As she follows the trail through old shops, storage units and half-remembered lies, she has to decide whether the book is exposing a killer or helping someone rewrite the past.
