The Quiet Hours of North Street
After his mother dies, a freelance copyeditor returns to Exeter to clear out her flat above a shuttered newsagent on North Street. He finds a box of unsent letters, a disputed tenancy, and a small circle of people who remember his mother very differently from the woman he knew. As he tries to sort the practical mess, he starts to realise the real problem is how little of a life can be understood from the inside.
