In 1890s Exeter, a compositors' apprentice discovers that a local pamphlet war is hiding something far more serious than bad manners and cheap ink. When a respected printer vanishes after setting a page that should never have been printed, the apprentice is pulled into a case built on altered proofs, missing type, and the kind of silence people pay to maintain.
