In 1847, a ruined surveyor’s daughter takes work carrying messages and ledgers along the Clare coast, where famine, smuggling and old loyalties are all moving at once. When she learns that a land deal is tied to a hidden route used by both revenue men and desperate locals, she has to decide who to betray before the coast is closed around her.
