Behind the stories
Eleanor Murray writes across fantasy and adventure, with a particular interest in character, atmosphere, revision and the details that turn a manuscript into a finished book.
A story does not need to explain everything to know what it means.

When a storm-broken archive washes up on the Portsmouth shore, Mara Vale finds a ledger that records debts owed by the dead to an old sea power beneath the harbour. To keep the city from being claimed by that power, she has to follow the ledger’s cryptic routes through tidal tunnels, ruined forts and a half-forgotten network of gates. The book is as much about the practical cost of magic as the danger of using it.
