A story only works when somebody has something to lose.

In 1930s Galway, a quiet assistant librarian discovers that a damaged private catalogue may be the only record of a vanished family's books, letters and debts. As the town prepares for a sale that will scatter the collection, she is drawn into questions of ownership, memory and what a community chooses to preserve. The novel follows her attempt to keep the archive intact without betraying the people tied to it.
