First draft
When a ferry worker vanishes on the Plymouth night crossing, the official explanation is neat enough to satisfy everyone except the people who knew him. A local investigator starts pulling at the missing man's final shift and finds a chain of small lies, old debts and one very inconvenient secret tied to the waterfront. The story moves through dockside routines, family pressure and the sort of silence that only grows louder after midnight.
