When a tired bookshop clerk in Limerick starts finding impossible rain-stained entries in a ledger no one remembers buying, she discovers the city keeps a quiet record of every bargain made at its thresholds. Each entry points to a small but dangerous consequence: lost names, borrowed luck, doors that open into the wrong places. To stop the ledger from being used to rewrite old debts, she has to navigate a hidden economy of saints, smugglers and very patient ghosts.
