First draft
When a blunt, recently divorced copy editor inherits a narrow terrace house in Chester, she plans to sell it fast and get on with her life. Then she discovers the place comes with a tenant in the spare room: a quiet local joiner who has no interest in being displaced, and even less interest in making things easy for her. What starts as a practical housing dispute turns into an inconvenient arrangement built on repairs, awkward dinners and the sort of honesty both of them have spent years avoiding.
