The Last House on Causeway Road
When a damp, long-empty house on the edge of Stirling is sold off for renovation, the workmen find that some rooms do not stay where they were left. The new owner, a practical woman with no patience for local folklore, starts hearing footsteps above her head in a house with no upper floor. The problem is not that the place is haunted, exactly. It is that something in it remembers every family that ever tried to live there.
