When a London commuter vanishes from a late train and his abandoned bag turns up in a second-hand bookshop, a careful but underestimated records clerk starts asking questions nobody wants answered. What looks like a routine missing-person case begins to expose a chain of petty fraud, old loyalties and one very inconvenient death. The closer she gets, the clearer it becomes that someone has spent years making sure the truth stays buried in plain sight.
