When a rare book disappears from a quiet county library in Kilkenny, the replacement card in the catalogue drawer points to a theft that never officially happened. The librarian who notices the discrepancy starts tracing borrowing records, marginal notes and long-buried disputes between staff, only to realise someone has been shaping the library’s paper trail for years. As the missing book turns up in the wrong hands, the case becomes less about finding an object than about proving which version of events is real.
