First draft
When Mara Vale inherits a half-ruined house on the edge of the Cambridgeshire fens, she expects damp walls, family paperwork, and the usual unpleasantness of old property. Instead, the house begins to alter its rooms at night, as if it is trying to remember a different shape, and Mara finds evidence that her family has been hiding the same disappearance for generations. The deeper she digs, the more the house seems to demand a choice: restore what was buried, or be buried with it.
