When a navigation archive built from living crystal starts erasing routes between inhabited systems, a contracted systems auditor is sent to trace the fault before trade and travel collapse. She finds the damage is not accidental, but tied to a buried dispute over who gets to control the maps that keep the outer colonies connected. The closer she gets to the source, the less certain she is that the archive should be restored at all.
