Behind the stories
Charlotte Marshall is a horror writer interested in how stories work, how readers respond to them and how technology is changing the way writers create and publish.
A story only works when somebody has something to lose.

On the writing desk
First draft
When a temporary cataloguer takes a job in a decaying coastal library, she finds that certain books are being quietly removed from the shelves, and the people who borrowed them begin to forget they ever existed. As the building settles around her with the slow confidence of something alive, she discovers the library has been keeping a private record of its own hunger. The deeper she goes into the archives, the more difficult it becomes to tell whether she is rescuing the missing books or helping the library finish its work.
