In late Victorian Nottingham, a parish clerk finds a hidden ledger in the records room of St Mary’s Church, and the names inside point to disappearances that were never properly investigated. As he follows the paper trail through factories, chapels and back streets, he realises the missing people are tied to a local family with a long habit of burying trouble instead of answering for it.
