On the writing desk
First draft
When a small Aberdeen bookshop is due to close, its careful manager Mara Lennox begins sorting stock for the final time and finds a set of marginal notes that seem to trace an old, unfinished love story through the shop's history. As she tries to identify who wrote them, the search pulls her into the lives of regular customers, former staff and a city she has been quietly observing for years. What starts as an attempt to save a few books turns into a reckoning with what gets kept, what gets lost and who gets to decide the ending.
